Success with Hip Impingement Surgery?

It may appear simple. I'm sure you have read it before. Hip impingement, femoroacetabular impingement, FAI, is caused when there is extra bone in the hip joint creating friction and abnormal rubbing and tearing of the soft tissues. But for most of us hip patients hip impingement is not that simple.

To get diagnosed, treated and rehabbed may mean a long, difficult road for some of us. There are many aspects to hip impingement, the diagnostics that are used, the treatments applied and not the least the rehab. You can have a great surgery and not so great rehab and only have a mediocre outcome. You can have an insufficient surgery and fantastic rehab and of course not have a good outcome. All the components have to be right.

There are some great surgeons and some not-so-great surgeons. My most important message to fellow patients is to do your homework, ask the right questions, find the good doctors and be an active participant throughout the whole process. You can be your biggest advocate!
